Getting to Know The Villages
Why I Made This Page
When I first became interested in The Villages, I went online and tried to figure it out.

I couldn't.
There was plenty of information, but I couldn't get a clear picture of how this enormous place was laid out, where things were, or what I should see when I got here.

So I got in the car and drove to Florida to figure it out for myself.
This is the page I wish I'd had.
The Villages is unlike just about anywhere else — and that can make it surprisingly hard to understand until you've spent some time here.

Whether you're planning your first visit, thinking about moving here, or you've recently arrived, we'll help you get the lay of the land, understand how everything fits together, and find some of the places and experiences you'll want to explore first.

You don't have to figure it all out at once. Here's where we'd start.
New here? Start here.
First, Get the Lay of the Land
The Villages makes a lot more sense once you understand the maps.

Our map guide does more than show you where things are. That's Google Maps.
Our guides give you tricks to quickly understand the Villages, Showing how and why you should understand major roads, be able to spot the Town Squares on any map and find the main retail corridors that will make your life easier.

If you're considering buying here, understanding the map before you start looking at houses is especially important. Where you live can affect how easily you get to the places you'll use most.

Meet the Town Squares
The Town Squares are one of the easiest ways to begin understanding The Villages — and they're a big part of life here.

Spanish Springs, Lake Sumter Landing and Brownwood each have their own personality, while newer gathering places including Sawgrass Grove and Eastport add even more places to eat, meet friends and enjoy entertainment.

If you're visiting for the first time, don't just see one and assume you've seen them all. Spend a little time exploring the different areas.

We've put together a guide to help you understand what's where, what makes each area different, and where to find the entertainment schedules.

Now Go See What People Actually Do Here
Once you understand where you are, the fun part starts.

The Villages has golf — lots and lots of golf — but that's only a fraction of what's available here. There are activities, classes, outdoor adventures, entertainment, restaurants, day trips, unusual Florida experiences and thousands of clubs and groups.

That's exactly why we created The Vibe.

Instead of giving you one enormous list and telling you to have at it, The Vibe lets you explore according to what sounds good to you.

Looking for something to do with visiting grandkids? A date-night idea? Something for visiting friends? An adventure? Something you've never tried before? Each list and search is put together differently:

Adult Friends Visiting: Offers The Villages experience while focusing on friends
Grandkids Visiting: Kid-friendly adventures
Bucket List Adventures: Once in a lifetime opportunities
I'm Bored-Surprise Me!: Unique ideas that you didn't know were there

Yes, You Should Explore the Restaurants
You're going to eat eventually. We might as well make it interesting.

Our restaurant guide inside The Vibe covers places inside The Villages, nearby favorites and destinations worth driving a little farther for. But instead of only sorting restaurants by cuisine, we've also tried to answer the questions people actually ask:

Where should we go for date night? Where can we take visitors? What's on the water? Where can we sit outside? What's a hidden gem? What's worth the drive?

Because sometimes “What do you feel like eating?” is not nearly enough information to settle this argument.

And Then There's Golf...
You probably already know there's golf here.

What may take a little longer to understand is how much golf, the different kinds of courses, where they're located and how the system works.

If golf is going to be part of your Villages life — whether you're an experienced golfer or you're looking at all those golf carts and beginning to suspect resistance may be futile — start with our golf overview.

One Last Thing...
You do not have to experience all of The Villages on your first visit.

You couldn't if you tried.
Get the lay of the land. Visit a few different areas. Walk around the Squares. Eat somewhere interesting. Try something you wouldn't normally do. Talk to people. And, if you haven't yet, now check out The Vibe.

Then come back here when you're ready for another idea.

Welcome to The Villages.

Now go find something interesting.
