This is one of the more interesting parts of life in The Villages — classes, lectures, workshops, and niche topics that range from genuinely useful to “I didn’t know I needed this, but now I do.”

On the surface, it seems simple:

In reality?

You may be competing with hundreds of people for a handful of spots, classes fill faster than you expect, and a lot of the information online is outdated or just plain wrong.
​
If you want the class you actually want (and not whatever is left after the dust settles), a little strategy goes a long way.
What Is Enrichment Academy in The Villages?
Enrichment Academy is a program offering non-degree classes, lectures, and workshops designed for adults who want to keep learning, exploring, and staying engaged. Lately, they have offered over 400 classes per season: pretty amazing.

This isn’t school in the traditional sense — no exams, no grades, no pressure.

It’s more:

Classes cover a wide range of topics and are held at different locations throughout the area and over several months per season.
Enrichment Academy is fun.

That’s a competitive sport.
Here’s the part most pages politely skip.

Many classes have limited seating — sometimes around 15–40 spots. We are in an area of 150,000. Demand can be high.

Getting into classes in The Villages isn’t always as simple as it looks. This is where a little planning makes a big difference.

If you don’t know when registration opens, you’re already behind the people who do.

Decide Before You Click

Have your top choices picked out ahead of time.

Look through and guess which classes will go first: Grab the 15 person jewelry class first, then sign up for the 60 person comedy workshop second.

An Enrichment Academy Story....
So. my alarm goes off....
What is that noise??!? Oh, I need to get up at 7:30. Registration starts at 8:30..... I stumble to my kitchen, desperately feeling around for my coffee machine. I need to get caffeinated-- this is a big day. I'm going up against hundreds of senior citizens with the same target in our cross hairs: The Three Bangle Bracelet Class.
I grab my coffee and get comfortable in front of my computer. Sure, it is an hour ahead of time. I am covered in night face cream, eyeglasses, and a wonderful feel of a great future.
Slowly, I realize I can hear the distant theme song from the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, knowing there is going to be a show down in a few minutes..... I am ready... my trigger finger is on the mouse. The seconds are counting down....
Suddenly, the register button is live!!! I hit it -- I'm In!!! I register.... and go straight to BUY; I don't want to take any chances. I put in my card-- it has a problem (it happens with this card!) I try again. AGAIN a problem!! ... I get up to run to the kitchen and trip over the cat to get to my purse: (Sorry, Mr. Fluffy!) ........
I bring back another card-- but in my frenzy, I grabbed the wrong card and put in the wrong 3 code-- the system decides I am clearly a criminal mastermind and locks my account.

I sit slumped in my chair. My classes are gone. The Clint Eastwood movie soundtrack has faded. Mr. Fluffy comes over to see if he can help, but there is nothing he can do. I lost out in this season of Classes.
​
So, now, I have to go in (somewhere?) and find out how to get un-banned.
​
Next season, I will try again. I will have better information. Mr. Fluffy will be in his crate.
And I know, with proper planning, I will be victorious in battling retirees for bracelet supremacy.

This is exactly why having a plan matters.

The TEA Catalogue and Expo
As one "semester" of the classes ends, a new catalogue will come out.
A few days after that, there will be a TEA Expo. Every time I see that, I immediately think, I don't drink tea so I'm not interested. When you see TEA, they don't mean Lipton's.
This is big event.
This "The Enrichment Academy" Expo is where you can meet teachers, see what art you will learn, ask questions, and basically find out more about each class.

Get there early. It is going to be packed....And so will the parking lot. If you get there right as it opens, you might have difficulty finding parking. Then it just seems to bet busier from there.
I suggest getting there about 20 minutes before it opens. You can sit in the car or golf cart and look over the catalogue. Then, wander in, meet teachers and get info before it gets too crazy.
Then go have lunch and talk about what classes look interesting this year.
The Outdated Info Problem (And Why It Matters)
One of the biggest frustrations with Enrichment Academy is that a lot of the information online is outdated.

If you Google "Enrichment Academy in The Villages" right now, you’ll find most/all the links on the first page are:

The outdated Enrichment Academy information is a problem. And unless you’re paying close attention, it’s easy to assume it’s still accurate.

Another True Enrichment Academy Story....
I was very much looking forward to the new class Expo this year.
I looked it up and put it on my calendar. It was important and I literally worked around it for work trips-- I wanted to attend the Expo.
The day before the Expo, I got on to the site to make sure where it was being held.
I found the site, clicked on it, and then noticed it was for the Expo three years earlier. The date they had given, March 20th wasn't the correct date this year.
I missed the Expo for this year, it was yesterday.
I was looking forward to this for weeks, but missed it because the site google took me to was 3 years old and still up and running.
